Celebrating World Ozone Day 2024!
Every year on September 16th, industries and communities worldwide celebrate World Ozone Day, commemorating the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987.
2024’s theme is: “The Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action”. The Montreal Protocol is probably the most important piece of legislation that has impacted the refrigerant industry. It banned the production and use of 100 ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
The Kigali Amendment, signed in 2016, went one step further. It aims to reduce the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which have a high Global Warming Potential (GWP), by 80% over the next thirty years.
